     It is unusual to find a historic property in the south Charlotte area, and the story of Shady Knoll is richly grounded in local tradition.  Around the turn of the century, the property which eventually became known as Shady Knoll was originally part of the Hugh Boyce Estate and the “Home Place” of S.C. Reid. The land was later acquired by A. B. Hood followed by the Akers family, who were prominent land owners in the area.

     The Akers sold this property to Stanley Harwood Mulford and his wife in 1941. The Mulfords proceeded to build their dream home in the country-house style of the time. They dubbed the property Shady Knoll for the rise upon which the house stood surrounded by towering hardwood trees. The house was known for its intricately carved pine woodwork and staircase, as well as its exterior architectural details and blue-stone slate roof.

     In October of 1957, Mr. Mulford sold the existing home and property to Charles McAdams, Jr. and his wife. Over the years, the McAdams' House became a well-known landmark on Sardis Road for the historic homestead, lofty trees and lush landscaping.

     Blackstowne Development, LLC acquired the property in 2007. Plans were drawn for an elegant gated community and the historic name of Shady Knoll was reinstated. With a desire to preserve the enchanting beauty of the property, Blackstowne Development engaged a professional arborist to catalog and survey all of the stately trees on the site. The private drive was specifically designed to wind between the mature hardwoods, thus sustaining the natural charm of Shady Knoll.

     Blackstowne Development has partnered with A Vision in Design (AVID), to creatively design and position the nine elegant, Colonial-style homes to complement the classic beauty and serenity of Shady Knoll.
